Dress code in the yacht club.

Just wondering what the dress code is at most yacht clubs. One we have been invited to, says smart casual, but does not mention jeans.

Hubby works in the city during the week so has to wear a suit and tie. At weekends we call him Compo. :)

So if he were to wear say smart jeans,shoes and a shirt no tie would that be acceptable?

Me... I have nothing to wear and must immediately replace my wardrobe.. :) Ladies advice required here..

I also want to know if during the day they have the same rules.
 
I can only speak for Bray:

Normally, anything goes. Shorts, Jeans, T shirts, anything.

Official events, Sailpasts, the usual stuff applies, Blazers and Dresses or whatever.

However, these occasions are rare, we're in it for the Boating and social fun.

Less successful clubs have to fall back on dress codes and table decorations...:D
 
We only wear them when it is desirable to do so though :rolleyes:

I certainly enjoy dressing up a couple of times a year (No Ramage, don't...) on an immaculate Boat, and parading a mile or two down the Thames in a mini flotilla of similarly presented vessels.

It's only a small nod to the traditions which have kept the River a nice place to be, where there is respect and kindness shown to others, even strangers.

Let the traditions die, and we may as well all become Pikeys.

Shorts can also be smart you know.
 
To help the OP smart casual means trousers and a collared shirt in most clubs. Jeans are possibly ok but beter to avoid. It means a jacket and tie are not required.
 
I think most clubs are fairly similar, nobody fusses about working rig or day to day scruffs/comfortables, although my club objects to bare feet in the clubhouse. If a dress code is stipulated for an event then that is what is expected. Doesn't happen too many times per year.
