We had 6' in the Abacos and although we ran aground a few times it was always on sand. It's not a major issue - you just have to time it so are on a rising tide when leaving or arriving at your destination.

You will have to be selective about sailing over parts of the banks but the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas are both doable with 6'6".
However if you plan to 'do' the Intercoastal Waterway in the USA with that draft, make sure you have a towing insurance cos you are going to find the bottom.
