Drascombe in France

I am thinking of trailing my Lugger to the Gulf of Morbihan. Has anyone done this--do they know what the up to date regulations are about trailing/sailing in France. Are certificates required?
Would love to hear from experience.

No problem. You need a SSR, plus full insurance. As long as your road trailer is legal - brakes, lights etc. and you carry the app. documentation for insurance - boat and trailer, there is absolutely no problem. We used to tow a Parker 275 down through France to the Med for our holidays. This was the biggest legal load permissible on the road and we met with nothing but courtesy and help.

Cynthia seems to have covered it all. I wanted to take my Wanderer to S Brittany, and asked the RYA what I needed to do. As I recall, get SSR registration and carry the reg and ownership docs, make sure boat was insured for 3rd party - and make sure that boat and car insurance were OK with the tow.

Trip was easy, via Le Harve. French road surfaces much kinder on the boat than UK ones. When we got there (between Benodet and La Foret) we were able to use the facilities of a local sailing school to launch, hose off, etc. They couldn't have been nicer although we looked very staid amongst their fleet which was just about 100% catamarans. They wouldn't accept a franc in payment.

Trailed a lugger and later a drifter to Benodet. SSR registration, insurance docs , and proof of ownership were required at Roscoff customs and for some reason a mildly officious customs bloke wanted to know whether the fuels cans were empty. (The correct answer seemed to be 'yes').

As mentioned by cynthia, courtesy but also much curiosity wherever we went.
