Dramatic Walton news ??

Has anyone found how to read the "Full story on page 7"? There seem to be no links to it that I can find, and the short para under the front page picture doesn't say much.
 
If the article is about the river silting up restricting access to Titchmarsh then there is a problem but it is not putting 500 jobs at risk.

I left there on Monday morning about an hour after LW and drawing 0.9m we grounded (very gently) at Stone Point motoring into about 3 knots of current as the flood tried to make its way in.

I would think that suggests there is serious silting since last year. We draw 1.4m and came and went close to LW and still had around 0.3m at least. However I would expect that HHA might dredge again this year as they seem to have accepted that they are at least in part responsible due to their dumping policy.

I hope they do dredge. Clearly we only 'surveyed' one area but we were in the centre of where the water was!

So old tech.
Have contactless credit cards with a wireless satellite reader on the buoy at Pye End. No fuss and the card is automatically debited.
 
Stone Point has definitely silted up more since last year.

We have a mooring down Walton Channel. We went out on Monday just under two hours before high water and at one point between the No 11 Green and the red buoy at Stone Point it flashed up 0.9m on our depth reading. We followed the same course out we always take. Between the red and the number 9 Green the lowest depth was 2.2m.

We came back in today at the top of the tide and between the No 9 and the red we had a lowest depth of 3.8m and the same between the Red and number 11. There was over 4m of tide!

We have been out a few times since the start of the year and had thought it has silted up more but it seems this has definitely increased further in the last few weeks.

It's all building up rather fast, and is seriously disappointing. We have a Felixstowe Ferry mooring and a 1.4m draft. To date we have always regarded the Walton Backwaters as all tide accessible, and they are our most regular day trip destination whether we leave the Deben on a rising or a falling tide.

I can see we're going to have to think about it rather more now, and that there'll be times we have to head elsewhere.

I always try for a mid flood exit from the Deben so once out one would have the tide under one and should arrive at the Backwaters at the top of the tide.
Returning may be more of a challenge but one would not need more than 1/3 rise of tide to get out.
There is always Hamford Water to anchor in and then a longer dingy ride to Stone Point.
