am using freeing oil on the ends at the moment, boat on a trailer so easy to do every weekend

have tried to turn the caps with a 8" spanner and custom made fork with studs, but nothing moved
put some heat on, no go

so, can use a longer lever, but will i bust the cylinder / internal fixings to the stern plate ?
with an electric heat gun, how hot can / should i go ?

Did our DPD1s earlier in the year. Not budging with the regular handle pin spanner a friend made up, but as soon as we extended the lever it went easily. It wasn't a sophisticated solution - we grabbed a 3ft piece of metal scaffold pipe lying around. Put gentle pressure on the end of the extension (not snatched).

Bear in mind the rubber seals when you're using the heat gun. We didn't use heat at all.

Use an alternative to heat which is cold, pack ice cubes into a sealed bag and fix to the assembly and let the cold work for you instead, same principle as heat but without damaging the seals.
