Any one know what this type of sail material is?
Been quoted by a sail maker for a main and genoa and wondered what this type of cloth is?
Tried searching online but cant seem to track it at all.
He said its vecton

Sounds like Dimension Polyant Vectran 073.
Doesn't help you much though, except it's a jolly nice material, for something.

yes all sorted rang the manufacturers today.

Glad you got the answer!

Vectran used to be manufactured for one company (Hood) only, however, when they closed a few other manufacturers started to produce it.

It's always been a very well known strong and trusted cruising cloth.

Be careful though, its active ingredient 'Vectran' actually has very poor UV resistance and breaks down very quickly in strong UV. So if you are thinking of Serious Blue Water cruising and expect the sails to be flying for long periods of time, maybe not the best choice of material.

This very useful chart compares the stability and tenacity of various fibers used in sails...
