I've been having problems with the fuel bleed seals on my old 1GM10, particularly with the engine fuel filter. I'm thinking orf replacing the whole filter unit having already replace the copper and plastic washers but was wondering if anyone has tried using Dowty type seals in place of the old copper and plastic? As some of the original washers are in a recess this may not be possible. Any thoughts???

bleeding 2GM filter cost me a whole starter as it would slowly get air in there and would take ages to start the generator again. Two years down the line and 40h but 200starts bushes went caput...
After refacing (as best as I could) replacing the two screws on top, replacing banjos, you name it, I just got two small o-rings and threw away the copper and copper-rubber washers I was trying.
Guess what, starts fine now! Final test would be tomorrow that I'll try and start it after 3days.
Whole filter assembly is badly designed (imho) and may endup removing it all together, but being a non-critical engine, I'll play with it a bit more this season and decide.

cheers

V.

After having problems with the bleed screw on the CAV filter I swapped the copper washer for a dowty seal, no more problems.

I bought replacement bleed screws from Yanmar a while back - + seals - I'm pretty sure the pump bleed was a dowty - the filter head is a white nylon, The screws are the same.
Bad type of bleed screw for an ally housing !

I use dowtys on my prefilter spin on head - use copper as well. Nothing wrong with copper so long as you re-anneal or replace new.

You can get imperial dowtys if you hunt for them. Not always suitable under a bolt head - as in the Hex bleed vent plug on the filter head ?

Bear in mind the Yanmar filter housing unit is, for Yanmar, ridiculously cheap ! Marine Power - £58 for the unit, inc filter !
