Just a note to say hi from all here at dover coastguard. another twelve hour, under paid, over worked shift. hope all is well in the land of YBW and PBO.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkk. now that would be a night mare. some people think its just a pretty blue lines on there chart any way..

thank you for the nice message claire......are you in our area or are you somewere off on the other side of the country?

But your occupation is listed as self employed, does that mean you are a freelance CG or from a temp agency per chance?

But all you do is look at pretty blue lines, make tea and chat away all friendly to the ferry skippers while scorning the odd yachty who crosses the TSS at 38°M.

Anything interesting happening on the water then?

Seriously though, is anything happening on the channel tonight, from bits I have read Dover CG is one of the busiest in the world, akin to a large ATC with all the computer toys to play with too!

If we are nice any chance of arranging the odd visit when you settle in, I make good tea!

Portland

And good morning from Portland.

Just off in to the office in time to arrange the flight of another diver to the decompression chamber and to talk to a yacht that has lost its engine but doesn't know how to sail and cannot sail into a harbour.

Failure of the Secondary Propulsion System is NOT distress.
(Running out of cold beer is.)

Why would you buy a yacht and never learn how to handle her under canvas? Must be mad.

Hope the diver is OK

Re: Portland

1)Everytime I'm out it seems there's a distress call for a diver, there must be something systematically wrong for so many distress calls?
2)Portland inshore passage .. pot markers
a) these need marking with flags, we went over one a week ago that was sbmerged about two feet in the water, just mnaged to cut the engine in time cos I had someone on the bow spotting.
b)long pick up ropes, at the end of the inshore passage just before pulpit rock there were two buoys 20 foot apart with a just sub surface rope joining them .. not a good place to get disabled!! Pickups should be a max of 5 foot IMHO.

[/ QUOTE ]Oops, Jimi, just spotted this one in time. Do NOT go into Treguier river at night. Pots all over the place. If they give you a problem, you had better have daylight and a good lookout.
