Double axle trailer

And i'd say the boat prob weighs in at 2t dry weight alone. Random guess of course as no idea of year or style of boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just a final spanner in the works with the modern limited towing licences, remeber the 3500kg is car plus the max wieght the trailer is rated for, not the actiual running weight.

So if you have a 1500kg car and a trailer rated at 2000kg max you are OK but if the trailer is rated atn 2500kg oops, even if the actual weight is 2000kg.

You need to do a lot of checking or get your son to do the towing test which is not that difficult. The Caravan Club run training and testing.

I am in the same boat re the license and just bought a Indespension Big dipper 1, if you ask them nicely they will replate the trailer to reduce the Max towable weight /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

They were very reasonable on the price too and service is fantastic!

Re towing what the UK Law states is anyone who passed their test after 1997 can only tow on a MAM of 3500kg so, it works to be 3500kg minus the weight of the car unladened = the Max authorised mass of the trailer.

More info here - Very grey area and I even consulted the local traffic cops and they said it was a grey area.

Are you sure ? If you down plate a trailer say a 2 ton trailer to 1.5 ton then that becomes the gross weight of the trailer, if the trailer and boat weigh in at 2 ton then you will be done for overloading even though the trailer can take the weight.

Thats correct, my boat is 1150 + 500 trailer weight = 1650kg's my trailer is capable of carrying 1950kg. I have down plated mine to 1700kg

I would keep an eye on your weights, boats have a habit of getting heavier as they age. Yes that will make the paper work look OK but if your boat has gained more than 50kgs and you are put over a weighbridge oops!
