Re: Don\'t give a monkys cuss!!!!!

You actually CARE that much?

Personally I think the £4M a year is worth it for the larf. (about 50p a year per taxpayer) Compared with say, 100x as much for the Dome/scottish parliament building/etc etc)

Anyway, the foreigners like em.

PS. I have a vested interest. I am doing great biz selling spitting image style rubber masks of the delightful duo. Easily outselling other bestsellers like Blair/Sadam/Bush etc. at the moment.

I didn't get an understanding of you reason?
Do we want to a Republican state? Do we want to be like France who are embarassed by the their history and the USA who long for a history such as our's. I was born here in England from Irish parents but I have been brought up as an englishman. I went to school and at 14.5 went to the Indifatigable. Ironically I joined the Army at 17 and swore allegience to the Queen.
Personally I detest the politics of the day. It is just a business game with high stakes and all blair did was to take up a liitle left ground that sadly Maggie left exposed. This New Labour is not new. it's mainly a Tory party being able to accept the union block votes and please the city.

I and many of my Army colleagues feel very strongly to the their Queen and they are very proud to to serve her impartially.

Regards.

Dear Barnicle, or Barnacle as we say elsewhere....

Fair point. Is it really, really, really only £4M?

And there are no other constitutional issues? At all? At all, at all?

Anyway, thanks. We're very pleased with that nice place in Edinburgh. You should visit it some time. Before they start charging for it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Neither do I, the only problem is I'm diametrically opposed to your view. I would swear allegiance to the queen long before I swore allegiance to any politico and like you I would wish to be afloat on some sea before I turn on the TV to watch the outcome of the next election!!

God, just the thought of it sends shivers down my back, endless TV/Radio coverage with all parties trying to tell me that I would be better off under their “control”. All the backbiting from all sides with 1997 quoted more times than enough as some mystical date that I should be aware of when my fortunes changed (whether for better or worse depends on who’s giving the lecture).
One thing I can completely rely on is who ever gets elected next time around certainly won’t be thinking of me?

As soon as we accept the fact that a politico will prostitute himself or herself for any reason just to get elected the better we will understand politicians and our own destiny.

I say lets include a “none of the above box” on the voting forms!

That'll be the royal "we" then? I fail to understand why any of us should be proud of a building like this which cost £400000000 - yes, that's eight zeroes - for the benefit of 129 MSPs. How long will it be before the actions of those MSPs add £400000000 to the Scottish economy? Don't hold your breath.

Oh, and don't forget that the windows in the numptorium are cracking because they are getting too hot and the floors are already showing significant wear. Would you put up with this on a new boat? Perhaps things are different in "Bampotterie-sur-Mer".

I'll vote for the "none of the above" box on the ballot paper.

Well said that man ! !

Take the whole jing-bang of them AND their building and ship it out to Sri Lanka (sp?). Might, just might, be more use there - For shelter if nothing else !

Oh............

.. don't get me all depresssed. I actually agree with you. The uncontrolled spiralling costs for the building were outrageous. And even after a full and considered investigation, miraculously, nobody was to blame. Amazing.

There are lots of issues that get up my nose, the royals hold a very privileged position snapshots come with the territory, if there is an organised press photo shoot then that’s that, who’s paying for their holiday anyway?

Re: Just goes to show

If generations of your family had been surrounded by sycophants, had their arses wiped by flunkeys and had more money than god, you might have got the idea that you were important too.

Despite all of the evidence the Windsors still think that they matter and that everybody else is wrong. This could be why they have to live in heavily guarded houses with big walls around them and aren't allowed out without helpers. Delusional behaviour can end up in a stay in a big house.

Er yes, I believe the Queen only gets about 4M from the civil list. Of course there are lots of other costs to the taxpayer, but then most of them are for maintaining listed buildings which we would have to pay for anyway.

God save the Queen I say, and thats pretty strong stuff from a communist.

By the way Westminster paid for the Holyrood mess, not the canny Scots. Edinburgh's architectural lanscape is dominated by ridiculous follies anyway.

PS I have a very old dictionary that has Barnicle, it also has dixionary mind you. But we dyslexics dont give a furt.

I can absolutley agree with you and I feel the same way about the Queen. As a Royal Navy bod I have swore alligence to her, but I dont thing I would be so willing to do it when Charlie comes to the throne.
