I know that marina. Its the ACI marina in Split, Croatia. Looks like a lack of communication between crew and helsman or some kind of throttle issue. The strong Bora wind blowing onto the quay obviously didn't help. Actually considering the size of the boat and the speed that it hit the quay, I'm surprised how little damage there was to the bathing platform. I'm also surprised that the crew on the bathing platform weren't equipped with a roving fender or two considering the wind. I suspect that the skipper wasn't in his job much longer after that incident
Me 2. A really poor show, unless he had some sort of mechanical problem.
Btw, either the boat has no fin stabs (very unlikely) or they were VEEEERY lucky in not grabbing the ground lines of the other boat on port side with the stab fin.
Besides, that wind actually isn't NE, but SE.
Which can't be too bad, because at least the external wall of the marina gives some sheltering from SE, hence at least the waves are not a problem.
I've been there with 40kts NE wind (already moored), and the waves were good enough to make the boat jump up and down 3 feets or so - all 35 tons of her.
Just by sheer luck, when I arrived there weren't any free ground lines left, and I deployed both anchors with a lot of chain, which gave me some room for maneuvering. Some other boats have been bashing the quay for a couple of hours, 'cause the ground lines were too elastic!
Nice as Split is, I'd leave the boat in Trogir and go to Split on my knees, rather than returning in that marina. Which btw is also the only one where I've seen dead mouses floating around!
