Don\'t come to Arbroath

Seems like Arbroath is not a place to keep a yacht - See below.

What do our south coast cousins think of these prices ??

Diurnal tides in Arbroath.

“When they put the dock gates in there will only be a four to four-and-a-half-hour access window once a day."

Stange tides in Arbroath then, only one high water a day? Maybe that's why it's cheap.

“I’ve had my boat at the harbour since 1989 and could get in and out any time I choose, tides permitting,” he said.

Er, so that means that he couldn't get in and out any time he chose.

Re: Diurnal tides in Arbroath.

He probably said something completely different, but once these journalists get a hold of it, then the editor has a bit of a go, it comes out completely different to what was said originally. Especially if the journalist & editor haven't a clue (or should that be clew?) about anything even remotely nautical !

With sincere apologies to all yachting journalists who DO have a clue !

Re: Don\'t come to Arbroath

mmm and I have good information that the bottom is foul .. I was advised not to even look at boats that were kept at Arbroath cus they all have keel damage from bouncing up and down on the bottom!

I don't know what you are all on about. Arbroath (5 miles from the frist residence of my life) is only good for one thing - Smokies. I trust one can still get them.

Re: Don\'t come to Arbroath

Expensive for a place like that, I would say. After all, the climate is grim, the inhabitants miserable and the midges are the size of sparrows.

Mind you, they do a tasty kipper up there!

<<Arbroath (5 miles from the frist residence of my life)>>

Where was that then? I lived in Carnoustie for many years, and had lots of friends from Arbroath and district. Living in Aberdeenshire now, but as fas as I know Spink's are still doing smokies!

"the midges are the size of sparrows"

Not so. Too cold for midges in Arbroath and anyway the smoke keeps them away.

When I was there by berth had oozy mud under it. Not sure if there are stones elsewhere in the harbour.
