Any tips about how to get on board (from a finger pontoon) and get in and out of the cabin with a 'pot' leg. Never known you lot to be short of good ideas, or funny ones come to that!
You were meant to be on your way to Med. If you have side gates get someone to pull boat close to pontoon, and then sit on side decks, bum shuffle on board. How did you do it?
Med trip starts June 1st (via Ireland). Sold the house, day before moving fell off the loft ladder. Bit of a daft thing to do really. Still, if I can't go to work, hopefully I can go to the boat and help with the fitting out bit prior to the Biscay journey.
We've got granny gates, so will try that option, if not I think if the boat is moored stern on I should be able to board, but it's getting down into the cabin which may prove problematical!
Now sitting surrounded by packing cases in a rented house feeling a bit mis. However, we've lots to look forward to and can't wait to get back on the boat. Visits to Pwllheli have been somewhat limited because of the house situation, but beginning to see some time available shortly!
I know this may sound like overkill, but put a rope over the boom, to support your leg, sit on edge of entrance to below, then as you slaken it off, slide down each step of the ladder on yer' bum into the saloon, sounds silly, but thats how my mate did it in Lagos last year, it works. Getting on the boat, can be difficult, but you'll manage, with the use of some strategically placed ropes.
Cynthia, get PSC to make you a bunk up in the extension to the club lounge, nice heater comfy chairs etc and they can move the TV in there for you as well. Then get Merve to top the card well up, open an account in the galley and sit back, relax and watch the world go by!
Really sorry to hear of your misfortune, hope you heal very soon but if quacks have told you to rest, please do it, I know of lots of people who didn't and lived to regret it, it's only for a few weeks. Maybe we will see you on our way down, although I don't think we will be leaving till very late June. Like you I am sitting in a half empty house but unlike you, we have burned our boats, if we don't like it, we will have to rent something somewhere, no home for three years. Did you know that there are 8 Bavs doing ARC this year, Moody is coming down to support the Moodies going and there are only 6 of them!
The heavy plaster cast is off, replaced by a light weight load bearing cast complete with shoe at the bottom, so I have a massively improved chance of getting on board this weekend! Phew!
