Domestic water pump problems: follow up to last week\'s post

Last week, several forumites gave me a range of very sensible advice about how to diagnose our waterworks problems.

To cut a long story short, a new diaphragm has solved the problem.....if you want the detail, read on.

After a happy hour playing with lengths of hose and a bucket, it did indeed seem that the pump itself was tired. ie it would deliver a deceptively powerful, continuous jet direct into the bilges, but gave up the ghost when connected to the taps.

I'm not sure I fully understand that, but guess the resistance of the pipework was too much for it (quite long pipe runs to 4 sets of taps - both hot and cold)?

Anyway, I then followed the advice to have a close look at the valves and diaphragm.

To be honest, I couldn't see anything wrong anywhere: no tears, no pinprick holes, nothing lodged in the valves.

Hmmmm....

Despite that, I ordered a spares kit from ASAP, which arrived this morning.

I had been assured that the kit included both valves and diaphragm, so was disappointed to find only a new diaphragm. A quick phone call got an apology that the part numbers have changed and that the current spares kit doesn't include valves. He was so apologetic that I didn't hassle him further, but decided to try the new diaphragm.

Well, you know the ending....it works perfectly again.

Once more, thanks for the advice!
