Had a problem with my domestic water pump, it was not switching off took it out and repaired the pressure switch ,tested it out of the boat all o.k.refitted yesterday but now it wont switch off when you trip the switch on the main control panel, it use to before, any ideas ?. i discovered this because for some reason its not pumping the water through but that might be an air lock, so the pumps just runs continuosly.

Ian you may have put the switch in wrong, yes I did it last summer in St peterport, took it back and nothing wrong, the rubber it pushes against may be split, does it leak any water?, if not bleed all the taps and the calorifier, there is a blowoff valve with red cap, switch pump on and twist cap to bleed out the air, dont forget shower/ transom one as well, you can have wires on wrong way round eg power cable to pump motor, there are no relays unless like me you fitted one to take the load from the switch, ie switch switches relay to power pump.
cheers paul.

You did not say whether the pump switches off under other circumstances. I guess you found that, since the pressure is not building up the pressure switch does not cut off the power to the motor - which keeps operating. And, if I understand correctly, when you switch off all the power the motor still does not stop.

That suggests to me that the wires for the pump NEVER went through the main power switch - you just never noticed because the pump was behaving itself.

Assuming its a diaphragm pump it should have no difficulty sucking out air and air in the lines should be easily expelled through the taps. If there is a lot of air in the system it will of course take a fair amount of pumping to remove it.

If the pump refuses to switch off I would suspect a leak somewhere - perhaps on the suction side if water is not being expelled anywhere.

My pump has only 2 wires to it and it would not matter which way they are connected - except that the motor would run backwards - I think it would still pump normally.

As you've repaired the pressure switch, which would have been my first thought, it is possible that you have a small leak somewhere that is causing a drop in pressure.

It may be small enough that you don't notice any leaks, or even in such a position that no water leaks out, just sufficient air to reduce the pressure enough to keep the pump cycling. I would suggest initially checking all the joints and connections where you re-installed the pump.
