Now, as many of you know I am in the process of fitting a "wind thing" to my boat, why? you may well ask, Well I don't know, but any hoo.

After taking 90% of the boat apart to fit the thing we wired it all up last night and switched it on,,,nothing except "ST Fail" flashing on all the screens, oh well thinks me perhaps the Autopilot needs to be first in the circuit, so I tried that this morning...BANG,BUFF,SSSS!!!!! Oh dear,, now nothing works cos' I've blown up my Autopilot course computer which runs 99% of all the instruments on the boat DOH!!!!!!!! And the other minor thing is that this computer costs £500 to repair.
Sob, Sob, Why me????
I'm off to cry into my wallet which would be £500 lighter,,,,if there was £500 in it!!!!!
So I am now without my beloved electronics until I have raised the necessary funds to fix the thing/forums/images/icons/mad.gif
Donations gratefully recieved

So what's the moral of the story?

Could it be "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it"

You have certainly made me think before I put any more gadgets on my boat /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Good luck with getting it fixed anyway /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Did you plug it in and test it before digging holes? Just wandering if so, as I am sure you did, and if it was OK, whether there is a broken cable somewhere. Hope this helps.

Yes, it was all working perfectly, so I drilled the holes (with great difficulty as my instrument panal has an Aluminium backing about 1/2in thick!) and stuck the instruments in,,,BANG!!

Yup. My fishfinder is the first to fail with low batteries. Then the plotter and auto pilot. There might be nothing atall wrong. Hopefully!!

Not that bad

well, my anchor has been confirmed as busted, and costs 3 grand to fix it. Mind you i got 50% off cos it is fairly new. So, £1500 quid. Hope this makes you feel that 500 quid is not that bad, sort of.

....seems like an unfair percentage ratio if you relate to the cost of the boat....../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Not that bad

um, yeah, but then, i didn't want to be that sort of customer - "look, i've spent all this money, so i should have xyz for free, even tho it is way outside the terms of the original deal" which doesn't work in sainsbury's eg "i've been buying food in here for 20 years so surely you aren't going to charge me full price for a loaf of bread fer crissakes?"

Seems i had a duff anchor OR it was always too empty of oil. Hence busted. It says it shd be filled in in the manual, and it was a long way short. It may never have had any in BUT I didn't check tilll recently, so pretty much my fault and/or those so-called professional skippers before who didn't fill it up either.

Re: Busted anchor

There are whirring things inside, with gears. It says in the manual that it should be in oil. Checked it after it last went a bit s-l-o-w and it seemed to have none at all in.

The worrying thing is that the Moose is a Flight Engineer, any idea what airline he is with as I would like to avoid the airline he is with at all costs.
