Hi all.

We're soon off from the UK to France for five months with our two dogs. Our normal pet insurance only covers 30 days abroad. Up to 100 days on multiple trips is the best I can find. I'm pretty sure I saw an advert in one of the uk mags or maybe online for a company that offered proper long term overseas insurance. Any clues anyone?

Happy sailing, Jon.

I've been looking for this too, but haven't seen anything. Please let me know if you find anything?

If you are going to Brittany you could insure your Dogs with AXA in Ploermel, cancel your UK policy as soon as you have the French one in place. Probably cheaper than a UK policy. (this is what we did when we went to live in France) also Vets bills are cheaper.

Thank you for that. I'll certainly look into it. I'm going to wade through my mountain of old boat mags to see if I can find the article as well.

Really? Not my experience by any means. 40 - 80 euros to administer passport meds. Similar treatment in UK is more like £15. I moved to self-insuring the hound after a couple of very tortuous claims which were eventually settled by the insurance Co. after MUCH argy-bargy and eye watering excesses. If you can meet the worst case cost of pet treatment yourself avoid insurers, which is the case for all insurance , I suppose. The administration and profit margins for their business don't come for free.

Well Tony..... Our plan at the moment ( about number 23? ) is a friend is coming over on the Plymouth Roscoff, spending a few days with Sarah and I and then either driving with her and the dogs back to the Dieppe Newhaven or possibly via the tunnel and visiting friends over in east Sussex. He'll also bring another mate for the sail back home to Plymouth. Complete pain in the neck but we'll be gone for four months or so, so hopefully worth the effort! Neither of us are happy leaving them on the car deck for the longer crossings.
Any other suggestions gratefully received!

Come back via Ireland. It just shows how daft the regulations are.
