i've got my rib for sale on various sites and I got an email from a chap in Estonia -

Hi!

What is your RIB carrying capability in kilograms?
What is normal cruising speed at 3000 rpm? with close to maximum load?
What is maximum speed with maximum load and no load?
what is the most economic speed for almost empty boat - if I plan to return from England by sea?

wbr.,
Peep Rada

Any thoughts ?

Nice Looking Rib You Have , What Will The D3 Do Flat Out ?

she'll do 34kts, which cuts the trip to the channel islands to under 3 hours
i'm in two minds about him, could be legit, but anyway if he turns up with cash he can do what he wants with it.

Pass on his details to the new Immigration officers

Having given thought to the possibility of your boat being used in an illegal activity, you could be said to be an accesory if you do not at the very least raise the issue with them.

There are rewards for information leading to a conviction, too.

It was all good until the "return to England" bit....

I don't see why it should be all that odd though - they are reasonable questions for what is essentially a workboat type of vessel.

But "return to England" was an odd comment yeh....

Err, the Estonian chappie actually says "if I plan to return from England by sea?" so the loony is obviously thinking about buying a boat over here and sailing it back to Estonia. Slightly mad but not actually illegal.

Sounds legit so far, as long as he turns up with cash, expect US dollars though.
As for driving it back, why not? its not that far at 30knts, 3-4days staying in hotels on the way.

Don't think so - unless you have very good reason to suspect money laundering. Think about it - 'oh, I think that chap looks dodgy, I better report him'. Apart from anything else, based on the questions asked, there is no real reason the think the guy is anything but genuinely interested.

Having recently done a similar move myself (buying a boat from UK and driving it back to Baltic) this doesn't appear to me as that odd. Although our boat was of different type, it would be a nice little adventure on a RIB.

Still, would be an easy way to carry some extra 'souvenirs'. No one showed slightest interest in our coming and going (expect swedish cc when we passed Kings summer residence too close /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
