Roller reefing on the current boat. Previous boat had wykeham-martin roller furling, reduction in area being achieved by furling the jib and continuing under staysail alone.

Std Furlex 200 on mine for the Headsail. Main is a slab-reef though, which also appears to be giving way to in-mast.

Is the question "Does everyone use roller reefing?" per the stated question, "Is it typical that only 1.5% of yachts don't have roller reefing?" (per the post) or "Does your boat have roller reefing?" (per other posters' interpretations)?

Edit: I'll go for "No"/"Maybe but sounds a little low"/"Yes" as appropriate

An awful lot of racing boats have luff foils.

Some boats have a mix of roller reefing genoa for cruising and a stack of racing sails, taking the drum off the furler to use them.

I have no idea how to answer the poll. I have a furling genoa, in-mast main, and slab-reefed mizzen. So?

I'm trying to sell my boat which is in tip top condition for her age and she has hanked on sails which is actually scaring people away. Strange because hanked on sails have so many benefits - you have spare sails, you have the right weight of cloth for sail size, the smaller sails set better than a furled sail etc. The only downside I can think of is that they take up space. Ok you have to change them manually but it actually doesn't take that long.

Some people have been conditioned to think that setting foot outside the cockpit of a yacht at sea is akin to climbing out onto the wing of an aeroplane.

I cannot understand how anyone can vote YES, it is self evident that NOT EVERYONE uses roller reefing. I do, on both main and genoa but know of many local yachts that have conventional main and headsails.

As already said the question should have been Do YOU use roller reefing, it might then have produced an interesting answer to the current prevalence.

I think you're right, Leighb. Only this afternoon I was chatting to the charming lady who looks after the marina loos, and she swore she never used roller reefing. She said that for her kind of work, a mop was much more effective. Mind you, she said it in Turkish so I may be mistaken.
I think the chap on the local fruit&veg stall is of much the same view. But not necessarily about mops, of course. He's a dab hand at hanking on onions.
I'm off now. In fact they've come to take me away...
