I leave my Navtex to receive both the English and French forecasts and if they are different take the worst. I find the French are more accurate as long as you can read French, luckily SWMBO can.
Today's forecast for Channel waters is covered by 2 brief lines for Fisher German Bight Humber Thames Dover Wight Portland Plymouth. That is EIGHT sea areas in 2 very brief lines. The forecasting back at base might have improved but what you get as a user has not.

You could use the met office mobile service :

I started looking at Windguru about 3 weeks ago and presentation is fantastic but for last two weekends its been underpredicting. From memory for last Sunday it indicated up to 28 overnight and much lower for day for Sandown. In Solent we experienced F8 during the day and many gusts. I will continue to compare but will now assume wind is average and assume gusts up to 2X average and see how it compares. With met office I find forcast tends to be at the top end of the conditions we will find and only reef down further if accompanied by strong wind warnings.
Exactly, anywhere from F4 to F7 over a huge area. If you look at the inshore forecast and the Meteo France (web) ones you can see where the F7 bits might be - and it isn't over the whole of the areas given.
Also as you say, the various internet weather sites are different again (but not available on board of course).
