An engine, that hadn't run for 18 months, fired up and ran beautifully, on Tuesday.
It ran perfectly, in forwards and reverse, for about an hour and a half.
It did similar on Wednesday .... yay!
Hmmmmmmm .... the bloody thing refused to start yesterday.
I tried bleeding the second filter (which is after the lift pump ie on the engine block), and saw no air appearing, just fuel.
So I tried starting again: still no success.
So I tried bleeding the first filter (which is between the tank, and before the lift pump). This time, no fuel at all.
Groan!
Hmmmm ........ maybe a blocked filter (bug?), or a duff lift pump.
I removed that filter element, which looked clean, though I didn't saw it in half to have a thorough look inside.
It had been a long negative day by then (for numerous reasons, not all boat-realated), so I decided enough was enough.
Looking on the bright side, she's got another identical engine to port, so I might try swapping over the lift pumps, to see if that has any magical effect (and the lift pumps are still available new, for arould £35 inc VAT).
If that gets it running again, that'll feel like a (very) good result.
But, planning ahead, it'd be good to know if there's any knowledgeable BMC people in the area.
