Does Anybody on here have a westerly in Kos Marina?

Hm, this will really test if it's a small world!

Note that lots of foreign owned boats use reg agents to sign the docs and be british keeper for them, whilst they carry on being er not british. But avoids all local taxes.

Or is it sinking?

okay, you have hit it right? Get in on that transporter QUICK

Just bought a new boat based in Kos marina, its on the hard at the moment next to a British flagged Westerly (Konsort?). Did spot a Moody 336 their as well, is she yours?

I was just looking for oppinions on the area/marina with a view to keeping her there or shipping her back.

I did spend the first 16 years of my sailing life mucking around with wobbly fabric things going every where at 6 knots, so I do know a bit.

(does this mean I'm banned from the MOBO forum now my dark secret is out?)

Our cat is berthed there at the moment. As you will have seen its a clean place with limited facilities during winter. Most women arriving there comment on how good the showers and toilets are!
It can be exposed especially during the winter months particularly from the north.
For over wintering you need a berth at the south end (Nearest Yard) where there is protection from the swell. This year saw less than half a dozen liveaboards there, and with everything shut down in the area, its pretty quiet.
Summer sees plenty of action - with charter boats using it as a change over place and all the local bars and amenities opened up.
Prices are very competative especially as all electricity and water are included. Most liveaboards buy elec heaters, cookers etc for the winter as it makes a worthwhile saving.

Wifi is available but expensive at around £30 a month.

Quite a few swindelrys around but expensive in the marina. Most items are available in a day or two from Athens.

Liferaft servicing available too.

As for sailing area - well thats down to what your looking for. With Turkey two miles away, theres plenty of choice but island hopping between thw two is not so easy (EU and non EU). Plenty of wind in the area, often too much.

Chris,

Can't remember what they were quoting but they do charge 1.5 for cats. Ours is 9M so we argued we only take up one berth (Just over actually) and they agreed to charge mono rates.
We paid about 1000 euro for 6 months - so thats the monohull rate for a 9M.

If you want to contact them direct you can mail Kos marina front office on - marina_ko@acn.gr. They're pretty effecient at answering.

Overall its a nice marina with good facilities (Though no pool) but it seems to be either flat out busy in the summer or almost dead in the winter.

They do have a yard with a large lift. Security is reasonable. It was expensive at something like 400 euro a lift. There is another yard only a few miles away in Turkey that lifts at half the price. Many owners stay in Kos, but go there for quick lifts in / out as its a big saving. When I enquired about a space in the yard over winter, they implied they would be near full - but when we left in Oct there was plenty of space.

Mail me if theres anything else I can help with. We are back out there in a few weeks.
