Yes it is very worthwhile PROVIDED it is done properly. Most of the world plays at airport security, but go in and out of Israel and you will see what real security is. It may take a little longer to get on a plane in Tel Aviv but when you do you feel a bloody sight safer than in most of the rest of the world!!!
Certainly LGW and LHR are ways of not doing airport security.

I reckon that pretty soon airport security will be so burdensome and unbearable that it will quicker to sail there.

And that will be a result!

It's when they confiscate your Portland plotter in case you slap someone around the face with it you should start worrying.

"Most of the world plays at airport security"

Yup.
Flew to Croatia from Gatwick a couple of weeks ago.
They found the 'phone that I'd forgotten was in my trouser pocket, and put it through the x-ray on its own, as they do.
Totally missed the penknife that was in the same pocket!

(I'd forgotten about the knife too - didn't even find it myself 'till after I'd arrived at Dubrovnik and wanted to open a bottle...)

In Israel you queue for at least an hour to have the pleasure of being asked silly questions by a teenager with a gun. Most of the questions are only slightly more clever than those asked at LHR or any other place in Europe (ie "Did you pack your bags yourself or did you ask a known terrorist to do it for you?")

I too feel safer when boarding a plane in Israel but mostly because that means I will be flying away from the teenagers with guns.

Mind you, I haven't been to Israel for a few years, for this reason among others so things could've changed.

Security at European airports is at a reasonable level at the moment, but I refuse to go to the states if I have to give fingerprints on entry.

its complete pants - 2 personal experiences which highlight the jobsworthness (is that a word?) of it all in the UK.
1 - confiscated my aerosol deoderant, and Gillette Razor at LHR at the x-ray check, obviously aerosols cannot go in the hold luggage but now they say it cannot go in the hand luggage, I guess they were worried I'd give the pilot a quick wash and shave ;-]. Anyway once through security I went to Boots and guess what? bought another aerosol deoderant and razor to take on the plane.
2 - Freind of mine from my flying club flew to Norwich airport in a Cessna 152 (little 2 seater thing) - landed, reuelled, needed a pee, oh no, the toilet is groundside so in he pops, goes to the loo and then has to come back through security to get airside - they confiscate all his sharp items - penknife, propelling pencil. But, he says, I'm the pilot - i'm allready flying the bloody plane, I don't need a sharp object to hijack my own plane. Don't care says the security guard, rules is rules, more'n my jobs worth etc. etc.

Oh the glories of the UK beaurocracy.

About fingerprints taken in the US

Brazilian reaction made much sense: ok if a brazilian flies to the us he will be taken his fingerprints? then if a us citizen flies to brazil he will have his taken too

I would really have liked to be in Rio airport police counter when the first US plane landed..

Went through Manchester AIrport on my collegues passport after they were accidentally switched at check in. Obtain £100 of Euros, and went through security. It wasn't until we were about to board the flight did i realise. We do have the same name. Wouldn't have happened at the other end at cologne.

I think the thing about aerosols in the hold is a fallacy. The whole plane is pressurised I think, including the hold. If it's not, then none of mine have ever exploded in the hold. As far as airport security goes, it's another case of massive reaction to a statistically rare scenario after it has happened. The way things are reported by the media these days is designed to induce fear and panic in the population. . You only have to look at the recent MMR vaccine scare stories to see how the media can cause harm. Airport security must be a reasonable deterrent if you consider how many people are screened worldwide, how many planes complete their journey in one piece and how few actual incidents there are.

I don't think it is. I mistakenly put my shaving foam in a travel bag for a flight to Paris.

It was easy to identify my luggage at the carousel as it was covered in white shaving foam !

Can you imagine the skips full of toiletries if aerosols had to be taken out of hold luggage. If it was a problem, surely they would ask you at checkin if you had any aerosols in your hold baggage. I think some of the mess is caused by the decrease in pressure- I usually find that things like suncream tend to leak and have taken to sealing lids with duck tape. It also makes your hand luggage a hell of a lot lighter and gives more room for duty free.

Re: shaving foam

Do all men nowadays use aerosol shaving foam or are there any out there that still use the soap with the shaving brush.
What is the difference other than quickness, which of the 2 applications gives a smoother finish to your skin, or isn't there any difference at all?

Just a thought

Re: shaving foam

I find the aerosol variety easier on the tender skin behind the knee, but use sandpaper for my knees and chin, hope that helps!
