\\\\\\\\does any one know what the grib symbols mean?

Have installed UGRIB, looks good but what do the grib symbols mean? they look like bent tuning forks.

A full \ means 10kts, a half \ means 5 kts.... so \\ is 20kts.... \\\ is 30kts etc

The direction of the long tail is the forecast direction

A little triangle is 50kts, yikes!

Make sure you aren't frightening yourself by looking at the 850mb layer.

The box on the left of the screen shows the wind speed and pressure wherever the cursor is. Very useful - little need to understand the arrows.

ta for that, i was using the box but was curious, am i right in thinking i could download a file onto my phone and then transfer to the laptop?

I haven't tried that. I haven't managed to get my phone to do the web (haven't really tried). The grib files are quite small so should be possible.
