Dodgy VHF

I have a Husun compact non DSC radio 'receives ok but transmission broken and distorted on occasions . What you think ? Radio or aerial problem ?

First step is to exclude a poor connection - I have used Maplin spray solvent cleaner to good effect on the microphone plug/socket and on the aerial plug/socket. If that doesn't work I would suspect the aerial - can you connect another set to the aerial to exclude that?

Receiving takes about half an amp, but transmitting takes about 7amps. If the inline fuse get a bit mouldy it allows you to receive and you think it's OK, but when you transmit the connection breaks down. Check that first.
