Hi there;

Anyone know if it is possible to replace a thermocouple on a
what I believe to be a plastimo stove?

The thermocouple (I believe that is what its called, its the thing which heats up and keeps the gas flowing so you dont have to keep the button pressed in all the time..)
is no longer working in our oven, the stove is branded up "Bavaria" but I think its a plastimo, its about 8 years old.

Can it be replaced, or is it new stove time?

Blowing up is bad, and I no longer think its a good idea to wedge the valve open with a wooden spoon.

You can buy "universal" thermocouple kits from Focus or B&Q - may not be universal enough for a cooker, as I think they are aimed at central heating boilers. The principle is the same so it is only a matter of fittings & position in the flame. Must be worth a try for a few quid or so - and definitely better than a wooden spoon.

Yes. I replaced such an item on a 2 year old Flavel Vanessa oven - which I believe is the forerunner of the current plastimo kit. Hasn't failed again in subsequent 20 years.

Errr don't think the Vanessa is the forerunner of the Plastimo range - you can still buy them. Best cooker on the market, if only it had flameouts on the rings and grills. The Plastimo cookers are made by a firm in Bolton (address on the plate somewhere) who are quite happy to supply to the public. Ask for an exploded diagram while you are at it - comes in useful.

Thanks everyone for that! Feeling much better at not having to shell out for a new one, having just shelled out for a new Compressor etal.

Thanks again. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
