We are in the throes of having dodgers made, and her ladyship and I have differing views on colour combinations. The base colour is a tan, like the new Jeanneaus'. I think the lettering would be best in white but she has suggested a dark option, black or chocolate brown.
Any other suggestions or reasons for and against our own choices gratefully received.

When we bought our boat the canvas work was a sort of tan colour. The lettering on the dodgers was dark blue which matched the style stripe along the hull. It was reasonably readable from a distance in daylight, no idea about at night.
I'm not sure the contrast would have been good enough in white.

Personally I don't like big name lettering anywhere on a boat, for me a small name on the transom is all I like to see. For some years in the 1970s I sailed a boat with no name or sail number visible. Or guardwires, VHF, liferaft etc.

The preference for discreet names is aesthetics though, and I am fully aware that those who operate Search & Rescue like big bold names ( and best of all day-glo orange decks ). I reason that if ( and I work very hard not to be in that position ) I do reluctantly have to call for assistance a combination of DSC, waterproof handheld VHF, flares and smokes, big torches etc will allow a lifeboat or helo to find me even if it is a white boat with dark blue sailcovers, dodgers, sprayhood etc.
