Could the forum help me with what ducuments I should take on a cross channel trip. I did a cross channel trip about 15 years ago, but my memory is a bit hazy. I am planning on going to the Channel Islands and France.

I have an invoice for the yacht, and an SSR certificate.

Do I need an ICC ?
Are there customs forms required?

Previous similar questions have often had contradictary replies, so better to find out the information yourself from the above RYA website.

Oh, well but the faq does not answer his question. It states only:

"International Certificate of Competence (ICC) – it is important to check whether you need an ICC before you leave the UK."

This is exactly what he was trying to do. And the answer for France should be no, as far as he is not sailing inland waters/canals.

all you need for france (coast ) are ;-
bill or some proof of VAT having been paid on boat ,this must be an original not copy;-
Current insurance certificate ;-
passport

sometimes it helps to have list of persons on board with nationality and pass numbers.

What about the boat's registration document?

I think you have just proven my former comment...

Custom wise you are ok if you visit anywhere in the EU from UK or vice versa. NB channel islands are outside EU. SO to be 100% correct you should go to france first or notify customs (i think) But I dont think people bother. You will have to fill in a form at st peters port certainly - If anyone can correct me that would be most welcome!

The 3rd question down on the page I referenced is...

I am sailing my boat to France; do I need an International Certificate of Competence (ICC)?

The answer is given if you follow the link.

I still think that the RYA's page gives much better advice than the often dubious and incorrect replies that I have seen here.
