Re: Do your sailing Gizmo\'s have male names ? (nm)

Our autopilot is Barnacott, after the coxswain of a minesweeper I served in years ago. The dinghy is Muffin and a French boat hook, with a detachable crook shaped head that allows lines to be clipped onto cleats is Bo Peep for obvious reasons.

Why do you ask?

The tiller pilot is called Eric and strangely enough our toilet is also called Tony Blair...I would imagine for exactly the same reasons as AH's!!

Bi- Radial or Bi-sexual ?

Thanks for the response Chris !

Why did I make the posting?

Like doctors that become psychiatrists to try and cure themselves rather than save the rest of the human race, it is nice to know that other sailors call bits and pieces by their own names. I find children love calling things by human made up names which seems to help family boating and can avoid ambiguity. Most of us call self steering gear using male gender predominately but it is interesting to see how other sailors see things as masculine or feminine ( now I can understand the French language better). However, I think sails change sex occasionally. When on the wind they seem strong and manly but when running, and having to continually sheet the jib one way or the other , surely their female ?.
