I ticked "tablet", but only for looking at charts at home (and not really formal "passage planning"). I don't take it on the boat.

Perhaps those of us that use these things on board should be further divided into serious/non-serious users - I use my smartphone to look up the local wind/tide gauge - until I get bored and put it away. In sailing terms, it's a toy to be played with when you're not too busy sailing the boat...

Take a laptop but only for watching films, music, doing bits of work etc (i.e. the same stuff as home). No mobile internet capability on it.
Also ticked 'other' as I make great use of my 3G Kindle, not only for reading but also for emails and, vitally, weather. Great little bit of kit.

Use the onboard pc for illegally downloading music / films. Use phone and tablet for listening to said music and films when underway. Ain't technology great
