Do you remember an excellent review of strippers?

I have looked high and low for a copy of the YM or PBO which was published in the not-too-distant past (2000 - 2001) about rope strippers. I remember the test was very thorough. Do you have a copy of the article, or can you at least tell me which issue to find it in.

Try searching under stripper and ignore the porn.

Yes, it was ST October 2000 - Budget buy was Proprotector for under £100, Best Buy was Stripper for around £300 - prices go up of course as shaft diameter increases.

I went for the former, which was very easy to fit using the clamp on version. Of course it won't perform quite as well as the Stripper, but it came out very well for the price.

Yes it was in sailing today,did the same as you looked at the reports,played with them at Southampton and then had a walk around the boat yard.Stippers seem to outnumber other scissor cutters three to one.I ordered one at the LBS,one inch shaft and three blades for £250 when i was quoted £360 at Southamton.

I fitted a Proprotector three years ago. Now seems a little blunt - there is no danger of cutting a finger on it! Also it is not so good with plastic sheets which are plentiful in my area. Am thinking of fitting a stripper or spurs.

I had the 'Stripper' on two previous boats, and on one occasion was thrilled to feel the cockpit sole vibrate as the thing went chomp-chomp-chomp through a tangle of blue line and netting.

I haven't got one on the current boat, and wrapped a plastic fertiliser sack around the prop. Result was a £500 (yes £500) bill for parts alone!

IMO the stripper is by far and away the best - quality of material, design priciples, value for money.

I promised a the last owner of my boat, I would find him hte article or at least tell him the result. Seems rather conclusive. Maybe someday I'll spare the cash to upgrade mine (after the winches, EPIRB and the next major breakdown).
