here in the US all the dinghies are registered seperately from your boat

I've just done SSR for the boat and i'm getting a new dinghy and don't want the US coast guard, or police, looking for my dinghy registration and not having it.

So, whats 'normal' to do in the UK?

In the UK it is not normal to register dinghies, in fact there is no legal requirement to register any boat if staying in UK waters.

If taking a dinghy to France it is required to be registered unless it is small enough to be classified as a 'beach toy'. A tender to a registered yacht probably doesn't need to be registered separately, certainly I know no-one who has registered theirs and mine has never been queried when french customs have gone through my ship's papers.

You can if you want though. You can register a fictitious boat if you want. You could put your car on the ssr if you wanted.

In fact there have been cases reported of thieves registering a boat in their own names then going out and stealing it !!
