Early 2008 I have a new Benny making the usual road trip from Benny plant to Scotland. My question is do you really have to take extra insurance for the road transport, is it not the case that the haulier is fully insured/responsible? I understand it's better safe than sorry but it's not cheap so what would you do? Yours views much welcomed.

You could tow it...then you'd have a BennyTow wouldn't you..

I'l get me coat

Re: Benzedrine

Hi there Largslout,

You haven't said what a Benny is, curious to know what it is. When I had my 10 ton Ebbtide 33 moved by road this summer, from Stourport to Portishead, approx 100 miles. The extra premium was only £20, well worth it for the peace of mind.

the haulier will have insurance under cmr terms, this is a worldwide recognised type of insurance, but it is all worked out on so many swiss francs per kilo. which means that the weight of your boat will come nowhere to the value of your claim, therefore it would be better for you to take out your own insurance, i think the rate was 9 swiss francs per kilo, but i have been out of transport for a while now, so not 100 per cent sure, any broker will tell you.

Presumably you have bought from a dealer;-if so they should cover the insurance. If you are buying ex factory and have contracted with the haulier yourself, then you'll need to make sure you have insurance. Generally hauliers will just have a minimum level of cover according to where they are registered.
