coz, if not, I suppose there s little reason not to respond positively to the RNLI letter requesting an additional monthly contribution for that amount-as, of course I, and doubtless many others will do.
Still, the letter implies that the "shortfall" in their accounts is related to the increased number of call outs.
As long as its for the front line heroes who willingly volunteer...
Just a little curious as to the correlation between call outs and their budget deficit.

The RNLI is one of the richest charities in the UK so dont lose any sleep over any 'shortfall'. I guess their costs of fuel and maintenance must be related to call outs hence overheads may have risen

Yes, but they carry their own insurance on their vessels. After all, which insurance company would insure a lifeboat?
So they need plenty of cash assets.

Or demolish a perfectly good Lifeboat station and replace it with a bigger one that nobody wanted and which makes access to the very busy slipway far more difficult? (Lymington)

Objections from every man and his dog , the LB crew, Sailing Club, ignored.

Swings and roundabouts, some years they have plenty of cash reserves others they have six months of reserves left.

A few years ago with the stock market crash they lost millions then on top of that legacys started drying up and a lot of projects were cancelled.

everytime a legal firm or insurance company sues them, they should publish their names on the RNLI website with a summary of the claim. It's never going to stop lawyers suing, but could affect some insurance companies customer base as people choose not to use them

Fraid so. I always get the impression from the magazine that they're keen to justify their existence (and cost base) by reference to increasing number of 'shouts'.

I think anyone out in a boat that needs the services of the RNLI who is not an offshore member should be charged the complete cost of the call out

If you stipulated that rule, the RNLI would be losing an awful lot of the tax they currently reclaim as gift-aid, as your scheme is effectively an insurance scheme.

The new Lym LB Station is known as the "Palace" at the club and even has some curved walls to ensure it is as expensive as possible. The length of time to build it is probably double what it should be, what they need is a decent project manager then they might be in surplus.
