Hi

I am trying to locate this barge which I believe made contact with my boat in a berthing incident at Medway Bridge Marina on 20th April.

2009 Lambon 58 Widebeam barge
Possibly under the name of 'Peter's Boat'
Last verified sighting Thursday 5th May Folly Point, Medway
Could be heading for Reading

All information gratefully received

Bash and Run

Having been following this on the other forum, hope that you are lucky enough to find and contact the chap concerned. There may just be a chance that he has not yet contacted his local brokers to report the accident and do the decent thing. Will keep an ear out down this way.One more thing,he will have had no alternative but to have reported in at the Barrier to request passage,he will have had to give a name and it will have been logged.

There was a very similar vessel on the upper Thames at Cookham - heading downstream on 1st/2nd May.

Thanks for this information but unfortunately the barge I am looking for was still moored at Medway Bridge Marina at this date.

This barge is apparently a one-off, designed by the previous owner in collaboration with the builders.

A distinct feature is the curved rear roof line around the aft door.

"Four weeks ago " that would have been around the end of April presumably.?

The mooring 'incident' took place at Medway Bridge Marina on Wednesday 20th April between 14:30 and 15:30. I have plenty of witnesses for this now.

The boat was still moored up at the Marina on Wednesday 4th May but the owner was not around for me to speak to.

The boat was not at her moorings on Thursday 12th May and it was only after my asking around that it was found out that the barge had left a week before - Thursday 5th May.

She was spotted, by an off duty HM Coastguard, off Folly Point, on Thursday 5th May. The boat appeared to be having problems with the rudder, but did not indicate that she needed any assistance.

I will be contacting Medway VTS and RNLI Sheerness to see if they have any information if the barge has left the Medway.

Many thanks for everyone's interest in this.

If you think it may be on the Thames , contact Wapping police.

They can ask the EA to release contact details either from an annual licence or if it came through Teddington , we will have details on a visitors licence application form.

You will need a definate name for it though.

Thank you for that information, certainly no annual licence as no BSS cert. Possibly a visitors licence as he may be heading for Reading. Would it be possible to confirm

1 - that the boat name would have to be painted / displayed on the boat before it was given a visitors licence

2 - that the boat name on the insurance certificate (I have a copy) is checked against the boat name on the boat

I have the boat owners contact details, a box number at Medway Bridge Marina, this is as stated on the insurance certificate, the trouble is he's done a runner and the insurance company are unable to contact him about my claim.

Medway Bridge Marina are also actively looking for this boat due to unpaid mooring fees.

Well , in theory yes , it would have to have a name painted on it .... however , a lot don't .... they would have to give us a boat name though to purchase a visitors licence.

I can't remember the exact wording on the visitors licence application form , but AFAIR , they don't have to present an insurance certicate to obtain a visitors licence , although some do ( which is courteous ) . As per the compliance with the BSS , they sign to say that they are insured to the minimum requirement.

I am off work on parental leave at the moment , and can't really help any further , you could ring the lock to clarify , they won't be able to give you personal details though.

Worth reporting it to Wapping Police though , set the wheels in motion.

Good luck

London VTS should have a record if they came through the Thames Barrier, worth asking them too, Medway dont have to be asked to leave, London must be asked for Barrier transit permission.

Thanks for this. Medway VTS are hopefully looking into this now, just knowing whether or not they have managed to leave the Medway will be a start.

I will contact London VTS / PLA tomorrow.

I had a look on the apolloduck website and it hasn't been offered up for sale yet..!Any update on its current whereabouts??

There has been a possible sighting, if anyone is passing or is moored here I would be grateful for any further information.

I will be checking this location out in person on Thursday, watch this space !

Have you found him yet? If not, I'm pretty sure I saw him moored up near the Blue Anchor pub on the north bank of the Thames up river of Hammersmith Bridge about 10 days ago. Quite well hidden amongst the other barges though. The only reason I remember is that it looked so clean compared to all the others.
