That's what I used to have, except it was the mono version. Just weighing up whether it is worth buying a used one cheaply or a refurbished one less cheaply. The latest Canon model equivalent (ip100) is a bit pricey!

We bought a HP Deskjet1050 in Lanzarote- cheap printer/copier/scanner, cost about £30 if I recall correctly. Works great, use it a fair amount. However, we have just today had a helluva job with new print cartridges.... currently in Fiji, applying for Australian 1 year visa so need all sorts of copies of bank statements/ pasports etc etc. Of course the cartridges both decide to run out of ink. No problem, Suva is a fairly big town and we easily find a shop selling HP ink cartridges, they sell us some that have a different 'number' to our old ones but that they say are identical...
which they are- physically- but they have a hidden software code that means we have to contact HP to 'regionalise' the printer.... after 2 days of internet searching, talking at great expense to HP helpdesks in England, America, and Australia, we finally get them to work. In the end, it would have been cheaper to buy a brand new identical printer with cartridges included!! anyway, don't buy an HP printer in one region of the world and expect to be able to buy comparible cartridges in another.

I have an HP Deskjet 1000 on board, very light and the cheapest I could find. Does the job!

I also have an HP Deskjet 1000 Printer - Model J110a

At the time I bought it, it was the smallest footprint available without getting a dedicated portable. I got a voltage booster on eBay for about £5 so I can run it on 12V. I've had it 18 months with no problems, my previous Canon used to dry out if you didn't use it for a few weeks.

Why nobody mention CISS Continuous Ink Supply System, I bought my printer two years ago, it takes only canon cartridges, but around the same time i invested 25 pound in CISS installation took me a whole day as i am not a computer gene , but never bought any cartridges since then. And I do print a lot, and I mean a LOT,sometimes whole books and photo albums. I bought mine here but if you google CISS u'll find lots places selling them.
