During recent journeys crossing from the Crouch to Ostende then along the coast to Dunkirk before crossing to Ramsgate I learned a lot ( not hard for a relative newbie to sailing ) , like how to interpret a radar return and anticipate whether he was going to cross astern or ahead , or even possibly bump me . I also learned how to recognise different symbols on the chart plotter and even started to learn how to tweak the sails using the tell tails as an indication of performance . But do you ever reach a point where you know absolutely everything about sailing ? . If so , doesn't it get boring ?

If you do, you buy a different type of boat - Bermuda / Gaff / Gunter / Junk rigged etc. and start learning all over again, then you move into Cats / Trimarans / solo sailing etc.

when you have finally mastered all those, you go and prop up the bar in your local sailing club and bore everyone else to death... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I couldn't imagine it ever being boring-it's not our natural environment but is something we always want to learn from.I guess the risk and challenge is always the draw whether you have circumnavigated the world or rowed on the Serpentine!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yes, is the answer.

You have to stop learning when you know as much as I do!
I now know everything there is to know about everything - past, present and future.

I even knew that you’d ask that question – and who’d reply – and what they’d say.

It’s a burden sometimes, but of course – I knew it would be. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

nope,

I have just learnt that I do not wish to move to Cornwall, even though my roots are there. I don't want to live somewhere that seems to be trying to implode!

I am seriously looking at Brixham now, much nicer and less hate.

A rhetorical question.
You know very well you will never stop learning and not just about sailing, but about everything.
If you don't want to find out new things, you're either very stupid or very dead.

Actually I think we have had some dead guests, on that basis. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd like to point out to Colin24 that I knew he was going to say that! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Please don't reply. (Of course I know what you are going to do)

Oh dear, I seem to have disappeared up myself! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yes, it was when I became a Marine Underwriter. I now, as a result of this elevation, know everything.

What is the difference between God and a Marine Underwriter?

God does not think he is a Marine Underwriter.
