I've just bought a replacement mooring buoy, the other had deflated - it has a puncture and with the material feeling thin where it has bleached in the sun l am replacing it. Its on a club mooring where l own the chain, mooring buoy etc and it drys onto mud and has water around it for 4 hrs either side of high water.

The last mooring buoy was bought 2nd hand, l never anti fouled it but gave it a scrape once a season, it had been previously anti fouled. The new one is very shiny new plastic.

Does anyone else anti foul theirs?

I antifoul mine, simply because it makes it easier to deal with in the Autumn, when I drop the riser to the bottom, with a messenger and buoy attached.

I don't. But I think I should. I have to scrape a lot of growth of. Every year or it will gradually sink.
My current buoy is a red inflatable.
I am considering replacing with a hard grp. Which I will anti foul.
Other problem I find is keeping a legible name visable

Yes, otherwise it gets loaded with baby mussels, and weed.

I do not anti foul my buoy. It is provided by the local authority and made of hard plastic. It is quite heavy so stays in the water. I would paint it with a/f if it weren't so heavy.
I scrape the fouling off it (in water) every month or so in the summer as it gets quite thick. I also try to clean the chain and shackles so they can be inspected.
So not such a silly question. good luck olewill

Since I started antifouling the lower half of my mooring buoy a few years ago it has stopped becoming a seaweed infested farm.

I now always antifouling it and many others are now doing the same.
