do we need permision to sail in europe now??

Ive been crusing since 1974 mostly living aboard,ive given sail school done boat delivery and charter skipper leader over the years to eat. A couple of months ago i was told i need to pay to join a sail course either in UK or Spain and then pay for a paper to say i really can sail?? From what i see of sailers with papers im beter off without one

Is it true? whats going on anyone know?

Are you perhaps talking about the ICC (International Certificate of Competence)?? You'll find everything you need to know on the RYA site <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.rya.org.uk>here</A>. Do a search on ICC when you're there.

If you want to sailprofessionally, charter skipper, delivery etc. then you need YM + Professional endorsement.

what i want is a certificate of compitence. They dont seem to give it any more?I just am not going to pay to an organisation that has instructors that may have learnt form me and pay just to please brussells. Im not the only one im not that badly off but dont think much of waisting money but in Corfu there are many who are in the same boat !! as i am and we will all be sailing illegly its a scandal i hope it turns out as the last mess that came from an illinformed unelectec corrupt group.now i have to repair the engin thats why im in France hear i can get cast iron welded --but not so far asbestos bandage---but well see on the subject if you want TBT anti fouling youll find it everywere and the fishermen add alsorts of anti fungse etc befor the EEC directives life was much cleaner

I cant speak for other countries but in France you only need a paper if you have some professional activity related to sailing.

Thanks to "Health and Safety" regs I suspect that this is no longer available. There are substiutes however. Any competent marine engineer should be able to supply.

long live France,seems sensiable , though the meds so full i wonder how long it will be before Brussels make it so dificult to sail only they can. In the past spain or italy would charge to much or bee difficult and all the winter boats would leave for France or Greece but now everywheres full.
Ive bought myself a place on land to watch the choas this season!
