Last year a guy called Tom Curtis wanted info. on this forum on the Cornice Express. I lent him my only video copy of a cine taken on a trip I made to the C.I. back in the early 70's with my own C.E. Some months ago after several phone calls to him and promisses of return I have still not got my video back. I am not now unable to contact him via this forum. Can anyone help me to make contact please? Dave.

I'm continually disappointed by people and their absent sense of responsibility and lack of courtesy.
Two years on I'm still waiting for a bottle of Scotch from a boatowner who I towed off the rocks. (And cracked a rib in so doing)

However I keep helping people out.

And what about my banged up propellors getting a boat of rocks in Pwllheli. £1200 worth of damage, and the guy did a runner. Never able to find him - also the storage yard where he was based covered up for him.

Or the guy with the failed engine that I towed in to Abersoch?

Or the dinghy sailor (retired chap) who was becalmed and need a tow back into port. When I got him back to the wharf, he told me to [--word removed--] off - seriously! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Never again!

One of my long standing rules is "Don't p1ss off someone doing you a favour." Its a stupid thing to do and even saying "Thanks" is better than nowt and costs nowt.

There again the tradition of the sea does suggest you help if you can. Pity Mr Manners is no longer welcome in so many homes.

Everytime ....... it might be you the next time!

I once towed two plonkers in a 6ft dinghy with a 2hp outboard who had a mooring attached to a couple of barrels behind them. The outboard had died and away they went into the main harbour fairway with no vhf or mobiles!!!!!! Strongest currents of the harbour just there and it's the point where it gets the narrowest - and guess what? It's just where the big ships, car transporters etc, have to put the foot down!

They asked me would I bring them to where they were going to put the mooring - why not - I was thanked - they got the outboard going and I watched them until they were on the shore and off I went. What happened then? A Prat on another boat asked me what I was doing laying a mooring there!!!!!!

Yeah - I'd still help anyone.

Unless the same chap asks you for a tow again. But then again, it would be interesting to note the behavior of a dinghy being towed at 30 knots for scientific research.
