there are not many activity's for mobo , competition wise unless you have a very fast boat, any one got any ideas on what could be organised for us "normal boaters".

what about a round the Island at 10 knots race. or boat handling competition. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Quite a few of the clubs on the Thames have boat handling competitions for Mobos. No doubt Byron will know all the details but I'm pretty sure the clubs even compete against each other.

Dont think an around the island at 10knots race would be very good though....they'd all cheat ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Theres not many activities organised for normal cars or houses either. But some how we get by.

Would not a disorganised race with sail boats, power boats, ribs and PWC's be far more fun. No rules of course!!

Predicted log competitions can be fun but seem to have gone out of favour, somewhat.

What about a sponsored occupation? Wait until the habituees of a certain Sailing Forum set off for a get together at - say - Yarmouth on - perhaps - a Bank Holiday weekend, then blam past them at WOT, and occupy all the berths in the Harbour before they can get there?

I'm off to patent this idea before anyone else can! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sailors do.
At least traditionally sailors have a yard arm (unfortunately we have to make do with a spreader nowadays), so they know when the sun has gone past it, so they know when it is a civilised time to serve the G&Ts.

There has to be a difference between power boat racing and mobo cruising. Cruising is just that, non competitive, the fun is in the relaxation and the G&T's as Pauline suggested.

The yacht racer has a completely different set of objectives to the cruising sailor and they get their fun / satisfaction from many aspects as we do. Blah - Blah...

The RNLI fund raiser could go somewhere on a harbour to harbour Fox or Treasure hunt maybe, chasing down clues left by some full timer (instructor / guru) that may get the chance to visit 10 locations prior to the event.

If you want to keep the appeal broad to avoid the need for a fast boat, and make it less weather dependant you could run the whole thing in one of the harbours like Chichester, Langstone or even Southampton, where observation would be more important than speed!

Could be competitive and / or fun and could do some good for a worthwhile voluntary org. as in the RNLI

Must be worth a tap at MBM for a kickstart! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What do you think? or is this just a P'skipp' starter for ten jobby?
