an explaination dear sir... there i was waiting for a call, did i get one? did i @"£$! at least a PM to let me know what i missed would be nice/forums/images/icons/wink.gif
you missed the BBQ on Friday, Poole Quay revisited on Sunday (including Brownsea capers) then Banks's Arms lunch Monday followed by cream tea at Swanage ........
Barry's phone, and mine, were on the whole time waiting for interested parties to call /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
buggering hell!!! i thought we'd left it that barry would ring me and let me know what was hapening.
i rang him to find out whether he was "here" yet... he said that he was taking the boat to poole, and was going to see if you were about. i had left the whole weekend clear too, just waiting... sod it!
this not having a boat thing's starting to piss me off now.
hopefully catch up in the summer then, best wishes, steve.
There we are anchored up and rafted off Brownsea........ Two Ladies (BarryH) , Memory Maker (Happy1) and Phaeton, with the crews/families of 2 other boats on board for good measure. Getting the tenders out for the little ones to learn on (bomb around annoying everyone else).
Barry gets out a swish 4hp 4stroke on his and it starts first time and sits there ticking over quietly whilst another engine (2.5 Tomahatsu) refuses to behave - erratic, stalls, won't start and dripping petrol. Float chamber removed and full of crud so a few choice words about maintainence to owner and it's chucked in the corner.
Happy kindly offers his brand new 3.3hp 2stroke Mercury one from the bowels of his engine compartment (see previous mega post for those that missed it) and I have to say it was light to handle and a real nice piece of kit. Identical to the Tomahatsu under the lid but nice.
Starts first time - runs evenly.
Put in gear - nothing.............
Heated discussion of guys hanging of the transom with advice - not locked down; not in gear it's a linkage failure etc but Barry, bless him, stats with 'shear pin' and sticks to his story through thick and thin - ie. don't be silly new engine etc
Anyhow - shear pin in 3 neat pieces (jokes around 'thats why it was discounted.....' had Happy smiling - but not happy /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Tooling hasd to escalate right up to hammer and centre punch to remove (cue always carry a comprehensive tool kit and leave the generator behind jokes)
remove the pin from the Tomahasua (same one!) and off we go.........normal boating issue easily resolved and leading to a well deserved beer each.
Not sure Happy saw it quite that way to start with but I will leave him to comment in 7 days or so.
Think he had a good time despite the weather but again he will advise.
Expect 'it's the shear pin' responses to any outboard problem posts for a few months../forums/images/icons/smile.gif
thanks for the insight, glad you all had a good time, sorry to have missed it.
frantically scraping and mending painting and fairing the old tender microplus.
might use it for a while and then sell it to generate some extra cash for the proper boat.
still looking for a spare lower gearcase for a 40 blueband (just in case you've got one in yer pocket)
also looking into another, birchwood 19 to play with.
anyway, thanks again for bringing me upto date, see you all soon. steve.
