no, but if you do paint it white, it will show up on the bottom easier while setting it or if it goes over the side by accident. you may get it regalvenized, but all this may cover up metal fatigue. i just keep mine clean.

Nice one Stingo, looks like it's not just the birds but the fish that haven't seen a yachtie in a while.

I paint the top of the shank of mine white, helps spot where it has dug in.
