'cos it certainly seems that way
Down at the boat this weekend and just about every boat in the marina is covered in cr*p. I know that the stuff is "berry coloured" at this time of year so it's more visible, but you never get this quantity during the spring, summer and winter.

Took ages to clear the stuff off and I know there'll be more waiting for me next weekend.

I think the purple poopers are starlings and this time of the year they have their annual conference at the seaside before leaving for their winter villas. Little bustards hang by the dozen from the rigging, even from the shrouds above the top spreaders and avoid all the usual mass of old CDs and bits of string on the boom.

BBC South last year said what a shame it was that there were far fewer of them doing their spectacular synchronised aerial displays than there used to be and blamed it all on global warming. Stoopid bustards, they deserve to be shot - and that's just the BBC.

Little bustards are very rare in the UK. I am sure you'll never see them hanging from the rigging at all let alone by the dozen

There is a scheme to reintroduce great bustards but again you won't see them hanging from the rigging either

Turnstones are a menace around our boats late in the summer. Never used to see them but in recent yeras dozens do perch on the boats, crap and leave muddy footprints every where

The 'little bustards' I referred to was in jest because I think our puple poopers are starlings as I said, but they have a shit room capacity to rival canada geese let alone the genuine little bustards.

I have wondered if a natural avian laxative is more prevalent in the autumn. No, seriously: could it be rotting berries or something that gets their guts going so they splodge all over our cars and boats?

No, seriously
Try a diet of blackberries, elderberries and any other fruits you can find for two or three weeks and see if it has any effect. I suspect it might but please keep away from my boat.

These Bustards were Starlings. Excellent! Reminds me of the old joke "These Fokkers were Messersmitts!"
