Our insurance survey recommended that the standing rigging on the mizzen of our 10m Neptunian should be replaced.
We want to do this ourselves with the rigging made up by jimmy Green.
We propose to include pictures of the new rigging and the receipts in our 'addendum' to the surveyors report ( the addendum will supply evidence of all the work done in response to the survey).
Has anyone done anything similar and will DIY rigging be acceptable to insurers?

Phone the insurer and ask.
Provided the rigging is professionally made and properly tensioned they should not object. Lots of people make their own rigging using screw up fittings like Sta Loc and seem to have no problem. A proper rig tension gauge is a good investment IMHO.

When I seized my stbd engine Craft Insure agreed I could undertake the repairs myself. This was sanctioned by the loss surveyor, who accepted my qualification for this, and also saved them between £8 - 10k on the claim they otherwise would have had to pay, along with destruction of the teak deck on the flybridge and consequent additional works to remove the engine from the boat. My preferred method was an 'in cabin' repair. They included agreement within the claim to a £500 nominal sum for making good cabin finishes following the repairs - far cheaper than a haul out, large hole in the deck, cranes, etc, let alone the commercial rates for marine engineering firms to rebuild the engine.

I did have to agree that I had to carry the warranty risk upon my own work myself, which I thought was more than fair - if I cocked it up then anyway I would only expect blame to lay upon the idiot concerned !
