Over the years I have tried various combinations, none of which have lasted that well and needed re doing.
How the last effort seems worth sharing.
The conditions of the legs before I started was probably about 50% aluminium exposed.
I dont have any special facilities, though the legs were completely removed and the painting done under cover at home.
There are a couple of small areas that will need redoing but in general has held up well.
It isn't as good a ssending off for a proffesional job of course but I think its a viable simple and budget alternative.

Process was:
Sand thoroughly and rinse down with water.
Cleaned surfaces with acetone.
First coat: Acid 8 etch primer
Then two coats of Jotun Pengaurd HB 2 part epoxy paint
then two coats of Seajet 034 Emperor.

After being lifted and before cleaning:

And after going over with a coarse cloth and water

The starboard props had a similar treatmentthough the antifoul was some left over International stuff....forget the name.
The port props were bought mid season and were not painted very carefully....just antifoul I think.
The cones were not antifouled and suffered accordingly.

Just thought someone might find this useful!

Thanks dpb.
I am about to start on the renovation of my 290 drive[ once the weather improves]
I am a bit of a fan of Jotun paints, and may well give it a go..
I had good results with Trilux last year, but location for antifoul can be down to a lot of factors..

We have just redone ours in the original VP paint.

We did it in Premier antifoul paint last year and hated the finish.

It has taken a lot of prep work to get back to this finish and hopefully it will have been worth it!

ETA: This light doesn't really do the finish justice in that picture. It is nice and smooth and shiny. :)
