Folks,
I have the suitcase Honda Eu20i 2Kw petrol generator which is handy for emergency battery charges or if I want to heat up the immersion while docked.

Only nuisance is it's a little loud, and I don't want to interrupt other people around me.

I was thinking of attaching an extra piece of piping to the exhaust, and then inserting the other end into the water, thus helping silence the exhaust a little.

Has anyone got any idea of where i'd get such a pipe? It would need to be flexible and withstand the heat of the exhuast. I was thinking maybe some exhaust pipe from an Eberspacher?

Any ideas?!

I very much doubt you could do that succesfully!

The water will obstruct the exhaust flow and create back pressure. Probably sufficient to stop the motor but almost certainly enough to cause overheating and poor performance. Damage will be done to the engine.

I have seen silencers added to such generators but even those will cause some obstruction and Honda warn against such modifications.

Some users have tried adding a length of eber s/s ducting to the outlet, and then putting the generator in the engine room so that the noise is relatively contained in there. I'm not saying this is a good thing, just what other people have done. I imagine you'd have to be super-careful to make sure you're venting the exhaust completely.

Cheers
Jimmy

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the links.

With all these proper exhausts and outlets, it's making me sway towards an in-built diesel gennie.

I just don't think that the locals could forgive me for going to the dark side of having easy electricity in the wilderness :p

But seriously, thanks for the links, it gives food for taught
