MCA Falmouth 12:30

Coastguard at Falmouth reported on Radio Cornwall today at 12:30 that the distress beacon had been turned off after alert, but they were asking a ship to re-route to investigate. Could have been an unintentional deployment of beacon?

Spot Message :
I'm not in Immediate danger but I have a problem that's slowing me down!

_________
We have no means of contacting Guy, so I am unable to ascertain whether he has managed to solve his problem or if it is still ongoing. The weather map shows that he has been in the area of 25-30 knot winds today. At the present time we have received no other "Help message" e-mails, so can only hope for the best.

Kind regards
Heather

Thank you for your concern!

It wasn't a distress beacon, just my SPOT tracker letting family and friends know that I had a problem with Red Admiral and an anxious call to the Coastguard from them to see if they could help.

I had an EPIRB with me for anything serious.

But now I'm home and well and all the richer for my experience.

Red Admiral is back on her trailer in the barn where I can start repairing and strengthening her main bulkhead so we can try again next year!

Thanks again for your concern,

Guy.

Guy.

There is a tradition in the Jester Challenge that you may complete the race the following year if you are forced to retire because of breakages. Do I understand from the above that 'Red Admiral' will try again in 2011?

Hello John,

It is my intention to have another attempt next year, whether there is a tradition or not, I don't look upon it as a completion of this years Jester but either way I'm happy.

Hope life is good,

guy

But under the Jester Non Rules it will be counted as a finish for the 2010 race.

In fact George Pike our number one helper at the Newport Yacht Club dragged me up in front of the Mayor of Newport this year to receive another 'Newport Medal' personally from Her Worship for completing the 2006 race in 2007 as I didn't hang around long enough in 2007 to receive the medal.

I think completing the Jester Challenge a year late is a fine tradition and at least someone should attempt it every four years. Guy, you might even be able to beat my record for the longest recorded crossing of 410 days.
