My history is planing hulls from smally inflatables up through trihedral to big twinned RIBS. Currrently got a deep V 21ft Sports cuddy.
All motor as not into sailing

Now looking at a liveaboard 40ft ish with the capabilility for ocean going with a view to harbour hopping in the Med

So having little experience in displacement or semi hulls, I would be most gratefull of any opinions, thoughts, experience, etc

Displacement would be the most comfortable at sea in heavy weather and at anchor. Less on fuel, too. If you don't mind travelling everywhere at around 6/7 knots, maxing out at 9-11. Usually a slightly deeper draft, though. Depending on your budget (?) it would pay you to take a look at Dutch steel mobos like Aquanaut, Privateer/Silverline (same company but two different lines with separate sites) and Wim van der Valk. All excellent boats. Can't beat Dutch build quality. Their sites usually have second hand craft listed, too.

There are some nice semi-displacement yachts out there such as Fleming, but I'll leave it to someone else who knows more about them to give you some info, although I have heard that they can be real fuel burners and tend to roll a fair bit.

Good luck.

Am currently looking at a 30 year old Valkkruiser with twin Pentas,
Nice looking finished in all teak and it is a Semi disp so could be getting the best of both (or as someone said on here the worst of both)
