\"Disney nails its colours to mast\" VOR

So one of the VOR boats will be backed by Disney and will have Kiera Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp competing in legs as part of promotion of the new Pirates of the Carribean film.
The boat will be called Black Pearl and will have a skull and cross bones on the sals....
No confirmed skipper as yet but I am sure it will be crewed by predominantly Pyewacket crew.
So what do people think about the Hollywood stars racing in such an event. Does it undermine the race or it is a good thing for ocean racing?

As long as they don't get killed, it will probably bring good publicity to ocean racing.

Can't think of any good reason for them not taking part. The added media interest has to be good for the promotion of sailing and I am sure that all of the insurance companies involved will insist that the persons concerned are adequately prepared and capable of taking part. Sailing has demonstrated time and time again that you do not need to have signed up to the sport as a foetus in order to compete, and achieve, at the highest level.

You never know, we might end up with Hollywood making a few decent sailing movies as well.

Well I think it will raise ithe race's profile but lets hope the inveitable publicity will not detract from the race itself.
You can just imagaine all the glamour shots of Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom 'in action' when the reality will be they hardly ever touch the helm or trim a sail.

PS Where did you get this info... its not an April fool is it ?

Sounds rather similar to the giant chickens running the london marathon to me.. good on 'em, sport often gets too boring when only professionals take part.

This was an article in the Observer (I think) today...written by Edward Gorman. It was also on the BBC South Today news last night. According to the article the boat is already in build in Lymington....
